4 Overlooked Features of the One-Boat Network

Since 2014 anglers of all types have been able to unlock more fishable features from their Minn Kota and Humminbird products by linking them together via the One-Boat Network. During that time, it’s never been easier to make more of your day on the water by catching fish instead of wasting time positioning your boat.

Even casual anglers have probably heard about how Spot-Lock™ GPS Anchor can keep you where the fish are, but what if your boat knew to Spot-Lock or Raptor down as soon as you reached your spot? Or could keep you one cast away from that submerged island so you can fish it from every angle without lifting a finger? Turns out, it can.

Some of the best-kept secrets in fishing aren’t really secrets at all – they’re part of the One-Boat Network. Now, we’re going to share four of the most overlooked capabilities between your Minn Kota and Humminbird products.

Stay the Course with Advanced Autopilot

What you may have heard referred to as the “North-Up” button actually has less to do with cardinal directions and more to do with keeping your boat on the perfect course (or heading).

Advanced AutoPilot is a long-time tool of the pros is available on all i-Pilot and i-Pilot Link Minn Kota Trolling Motors and keeps your boat on an assigned course to take you right over or to the sweet spot.

When you add a Humminbird to your arsenal, you get the added benefit of seeing your vector heading on your Chartplotter, so you’ll know exactly where your boat is headed and whether it’s where you know the fish are.

Spot-Lock or Drop Shallow Water Anchors When You Arrive at a Waypoint

It’s no secret that Minn Kota products work together to keep your boat as close to the fish as possible. So how do you stay on your waypoint without spooking the fish? Arrival Modes

Arrival Modes are one of the most overlooked aspects of the One-Boat Network, but they have the power to change the way you fish. Once you’re in the “Go-To” menu on your Humminbird fish finder, you can set your Minn Kota trolling motor or shallow water anchor to deploy and anchor your boat the second you’re over your best spot.

Spot-Lock Jog for Boat Control Adjustments

Every angler has had it happen – just when you think you have the fish figured out, they move. Sometimes you can still reach them with a cast, and sometimes micro adjustments can make all the difference.

With the Spot-Lock Jog feature on your GPS-enabled trolling motor, you can move your Spot-Lock location left, right, forward, or back in five-foot increments – so when the bite moves – you move with it.

Bringing it All Full Circle with Circle Mode

The biggest fish are likely the oldest and smartest, and a small change in how your bait moves in the water can make a big difference in the number of bites you get and the number of fish you put in the boat. Since current, wind, shade, and bottom composition can all play a role on what makes a boat look “natural”, it’s best to give the fish a few different looks.

When you find fish-holding structure offshore, you’ll probably want to hit it from all sides. “Circle Mode” made possible by your Humminbird fish finder lets you navigate your boat automatically around a given waypoint or object of interest at a set distance. Simply choose if you want to navigate clockwise or counterclockwise around the set point and choose the circle's radius, from 30 to 500 feet depending on how far away from the point of interest you'd like to be.

So whether you're fishing a wreck in saltwater or a gravel hump on an inland lake, this feature provides hands-free boat control to hit the fish with a different look and entice the bite.

All Together Now

Minn Kota, Humminbird and the One-Boat Network have been changing the way people fish for years by changing the way people manage their boat positioning.  When you get the hook up on the smartest shallow water anchors, fish finders and trolling motors on the market it’s easy to see why the best anglers on the water trust their fishing day to the One-Boat Network.
