Ron Pilkey and Brad Arnott Win the 2013 Top Bass Lake Seymour Tournament

By Luigi De Rose

Summer finally came back for the last tournament of the 2013 Top Bass season. The anglers were greeted with warm, calm foggy Sunday. After a long fog delay, angler were able to fish and for most, the lake didn't disappoint. Seymour lake is technically a river that has dams at either end. For the most part, this section of the Trent Severn System has thick grass beds and plenty of lilly fields. In certain sections, current and rock make for great bass habitat. Known for kicking out giant bass, it can also be fickle.  Brad Arnott  and Brad Arnott claimed first place and over $4000 in cash and prizes.

What happened to Aaron Martens on Day 4?

By Luigi De Rose

If you look at the standings you will see that Aaron Martens finished in 12th on the final day. He scored a zero. A blank in the standings leaves a lot of us wondering. What happened to Aaron?

Aaron is fine and recent up-dated his facebook page. While journeying back to the weigh-in he clocks several nasty waves and ripped the motor from his boat. He is fine but couldn't make it back to the ramp under his own power so his final day catch was void.

Here is his statement from is page:

Aaron and the boat are out of the water and everyone is fine. He confirmed he had about 21 lbs of smallmouth. He was coming off of Lake Erie into the mouth of the Detroit River when he hit a combination of 3 or 4 giant waves (made by multiple freighter style boats) at just the wrong angle. The bolts that hold the motor on the boat snapped. He is working on securing the motor so he can trailer it back to the launch ramp.

He is bummed, but he did say he was happy for Chris Lane Outdoors for the win. Aaron knew it was a risky run and it just didn't work out the way he hoped.

We'll get more from Aaron soon.

Chris Lanes Wins 2013 Bassmaster Elite Lake St. Clair tournament!

BASS Press Release
DETROIT  — After leading the first day, then falling into Mark Davis’ wake on the second and third days, Chris Lane kicked it into high gear Sunday to win the Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase.
Lane holds nothing back after winning on St. Clair!
He also nails a 2014 Classic berth on his home lake.

Through the win, Lane, the 2012 Bassmaster Classic champ, got his 2014 Bassmaster Classic ticket punched — what he came into the Chase to achieve. From Guntersville, Ala., he was set on qualifying for the 2014 world championship on his home water of Lake Guntersville.
The win was also his first in the Bassmaster Elite Series and a $100,000 payday.
Lane landed the Chase title by weighing 82 pounds, 4 ounces of smallmouth bass in four days of competition. His margin of victory was 5-7 over Davis of Mount Ida, Ark.
Davis, the 1995 Classic winner who also owns three Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year trophies, led on Days 2 and 3. On Day 4, one bass shy of a five-fish limit, Davis’ weight was 13-3. He finished at 76-13 in the runner-up spot.

2013 Bassmaster Elite Lake St. Clair Day 3: Mark Davis Still Lead; Martens Wins Second AOY!

Bass Press Release

DETROIT — Mark Davis came to Michigan for the Aug. 22-25 Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase ready to risk all to bag his 17th Bassmaster Classic qualification.

Saturday, leading the Chase for the second consecutive day, the 1995 Classic champ from Mount Ida, Ark., put himself in position to do just that. His risk was a round-trip daily run of 180 miles that left him soaking wet, hat to shoes, and shaken like a James Bond martini.
“It was definitely the Classic berth that drove me to do it,” Davis said.
The risk he took to get to Erie and back without a time penalty or mishap paid off. Davis weighed 20 pounds, 15 ounces Saturday to retain the Chase lead with a three-day total of 63-10.
After his third consecutive day of turning in a 20-plus-pound bag, he was 1 pound, 1 ounce ahead of first-day leader Chris Lane of Guntersville, Ala. Lane brought in 22-15 — the day’s largest sack of bass — for second place and a three-day total of 62-9.

2013 Bassmaster Elite Lake St. Clair Day 2: Mark Davis Grabs Lead at Smallmouth Heaven

BASS Press Release
DETROIT — Mullygrubs?
Yup. Mark Davis said he had them on Thursday, the first day of the Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase out of Detroit, Mich. He said he caught the mullygrubs after not boating two big smallmouth bass he hooked. He settled for second place.
Mark Davis lands another 20lb bag to grab lead.

He shook off those mullygrubs Friday. Not hard to do after spending a great day on the water, weighing 20 pounds, 10 ounces of smallmouth bass, and taking the Chase lead with a two-day tally of 42 pounds, 11 ounces.
“Mullygrubs,” the pro from Mount Ida, Ark., explained, is an old Arkansas term that means something that falls between the grumps and the blues, and maybe is tangled with regrets over missed chances.
“No mullygrubs today, everything was good. Everything went pretty well. I caught a limit pretty quick. I did lose one huge fish, but you aren’t going to catch all these big smallmouth,” said Davis, the 1995 Classic winner who also took the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year title that same season. He went on to claim another AOY crown in 1998, and a third in 2001.

2013 Bassmaster Elite Lake St. Clair Day 1: Chris Lane Leads with 22-09lbs!

Lane Needs Win to Make Classic on his Homewaters.
DETROIT -- Make no mistake, Chris Lane is driven.
The 2012 Bassmaster Classic champ wants to qualify for the 2014 Classic because it’s on his adopted home water, Alabama’s Lake Guntersville. Winning the Aug. 22-25 Plano Championship Chase and the Classic berth that comes with the event title is his best chance to get on the list for Guntersville.
The Florida native, who now lives in Guntersville, Ala., made the most of that chance by landing the first-day lead in the Chase on Thursday. His weight of 22 pounds, 9 ounces led Mark Davis of Mount Ida, Ark., by 8 ounces. Davis took second place with 22-1.
Chris Lane is hoping for a win to make Classic.

In third place with 21-14 was Aaron Martens of Leeds, Ala. In the No. 4 spot with 21-2 was Michael Simonton of Fremont, Ohio. Fifth place was a tie at 20-7 between Kotaro Kiriyama of Moody, Ala., and Brandon Palaniuk of Rathdrum, Idaho.
