Froggin' Fever

By Luigi De Rose

Hollow body frog fishing is at a fever pitch these days. Ish Monroe used one to reach glory at the recent BASS Open on Lake Oneida in New York state. Many anglers, including Ontario angler Cory Johnston worked one this past weekend on the Potomac River at the FLW EverStart tournament. A lot of baits are out there making it difficult to pick the right one for you. Here is a list of some great frog baits. It is not a complete list but it does include a few unique and rarer frog style baits. So, if you are a connoisseur or just starting out, check out them out.

Deep in there is the Spro Bronzeye frog. This frog seemed to really kick start the resurgence of frog fishing. Still a very good bet. Their Poppin' Frog is starting to get a good following in recent months.

Live Target's Frog claimed an ICAST award last year. Its super lifelke details has won over anglers and fish. It just looks so real how can you not have one.

Ish Monroe and his famous Snag Proof Phat Frog. Snag Proof has a few lines of frogs and has 50 years of experience making hollow body baits to prove it.

New for 2012 in North America is Jackall's Iobee Frog. It's only 2 1/2 inches long (body). Considering the high quality of all Jackall products, this one should be a winner.

This is the very new Nano Krocker Frog by Matzuo. This tiny one seems to be signaling a trend in the frog business; mini sizes. Smaller sizes of frogs are being offered by several companies in 2012. This might be the newest angle for the astute angler.

The 2011 ICAST Winning Mouse from Live Target is a new twist on this line of lures. Not sure how many mice are roaming in the lilies but who cares as long as the bass eat it.

Other great baits:

Evolve's Pond Doctor
Manns Baits (several versions)
River 2 Sea's BullyWa
Scum Frog (huge variety of baits)
Strike King's KVD Sexy Frog
