In a rare case of large non-fishing
corporations funding recreational angling, the Walt Disney Company has
contributed $50,000 to support awareness and participation.
The money will help fund the
recently-launched George H.W. Bush Vamos A Pescar education fund, part
of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation’s (RBFF) campaign to attract
more Hispanics into the sport.
“This contribution will help share
information with the Latino community and engage this audience in fishing and
boating through this newly-established grant programme. It will create critical
funds for state conservation efforts,” said RBFF’s President and CEO, Frank
Peterson.
The move strengthens the ongoing
alliance between the RBFF and the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Media
Networks.
The RBFF and its Take Me Fishing
campaign are sponsoring fun and educational family catch-and-release fishing
programmes and boating experiences for guests at the Walt Disney World Resort
in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Multiple locations at the resort
will offer Take Me Fishing-branded fishing and boating experiences in 2015. In
addition, the RBFF has a relationship with Disney Media Networks designed to
spread the word about the benefits of fishing and boating.
The RBFF launched Vamos A Pescar
as a pilot programme in Texas and Florida in April 2014. The campaign’s
Spanish-language microsite, VamosAPescar.org (which translates into ‘Let’s Go
Fishing’), targets family-oriented outdoor lovers who are seeking new
activities. Beginning in April 2015, Vamos A Pescar will be expanded to
include California, Illinois and New York, allowing the RBFF to reach 68% of
the Hispanic audience in the US.
The Vamos A Pescar education
fund was initiated with a $125k donation from Bass Pro Shops founder and CEO,
Johnny Morris.
