2015 Bassmaster Elite St. Lawrence River Day 3: Evers Continues to Lead!

E2 on pace to win two in a row!

WADDINGTON, N.Y. — With several distinct patterns still in play and nine anglers within 6 pounds of the lead, the Evan Williams Bourbon Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River is setting up perfectly for a dramatic finish on Championship Sunday.

Edwin Evers, who began Saturday’s semifinal round with a lead of more than 3 pounds, retained the top spot with a catch of 16 pounds, 6 ounces that pushed his three-day total to 60-2. But his cushion dwindled to less than 1 1/2 pounds, with Arizona pro Josh Bertrand (58-11), Texas angler Alton Jones (57-8), New Jersey pro Michael Iaconelli (57-0) and a suddenly red-hot Kevin Ledoux (56-5) of Oklahoma trailing close behind.

Evers stayed on top despite some early-morning trouble with his batteries.

2013 BASSMASTER CLASSIC Champs Day 3

Much will be written about Cliff Pace's exasperating last day of the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. He amassed two amazing 21 pounds creel on Day 1 and Day 2 of the tournament but Day 3 was a nail biter. Mathematically, many considered the Classic finished as Cliff had a 7 pound lead. Unless the world imploded around him, it was his tournament to loose. He almost lost it.

Here is a photo essay of the final day on the water with Cliff Pace.

The mild, southerly wind and clear skies forces Cliff to switch a jig from the Jackall jerk bait that was working so well the first two days. 

Cliff focused on any brush that he could find around the docks or steep banks. 

Cliff jumped from spot to spot like a mad man. He hit over 30 spots before 10:30 in the morning. The first two days, he only fished a handful of places. Sunday, he was zipping around wildly.
Many wondered if he was super focused or panicking. By noon and countless relocations, he still only had 2 bass. 

Top Bass Rice Lake Sunday Aug 12: Bourdeau and Demerjian Win!

Quick report:

Cleve Bourdeau and Peter Demerjian win the Sunday tournament on Rice Lake with a 5 bass limit for 20.15 pounds. The day before, the two came second with 18.54 pounds. Boy, what a weekend when you can land 10 bass for almost 40 pounds!

The pair won $3600 for their efforts.

Ashley triumphs at home in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. —  Casey Ashley of Donalds, S.C., won the Evan Williams Bourbon Carolina Clash on Sunday with a total weight of 61 pounds, 3 ounces.

The leader on Day Three, Ashley closed the deal with a fourth-day catch of 15-5. He won with a 3-pound, 2-ounce margin over fellow South Carolinian Davy Hite and New Jersey’s Michael Iaconelli, who tied for second place at 58-1.
 Ashley’s prize was $100,000 and an instant entry into the 2012 Bassmaster Classic.
 It was Ashley’s second Bassmaster Elite Series win. His first was in 2007, his rookie year. The two wins feel very different, he said.
 "The win at Smith Mountain Lake was special because it was my first, and in my first year on tour. I really didn’t know then what it meant to win,” he said.  "Now I know they’re hard to come by. I’m glad I won, but I’m real glad I won in South Carolina with all my family and friends.”
 Two 3-pounders in the last 45 minutes of fishing put Ashley over the top. He took both on a shaky head rig after deciding that finesse techniques was what he had to do to correct a day that began slow and shut down quickly.
 He had started fishing Sunday in what he said turned out to be the wrong choice of spots.

 “The fish were there, but they just wouldn’t bite,” he said.
 About two hours into his day, he made an adjustment by going to a new spot that got him going with a 3-pounder. He left it, came back, then lost a big one, and came back to catch another fish.
 “And then it was over,” he said. “I had to go totally to finesse fishing after that.”
