TJ Lacey and Travis Vivian Win the 2014 TOP BASS Classic with 37.25 Pounds!

Big fish abound on Tri-Lakes.

The top 75 teams descended on the Tr-Lakes system to do battle this past weekend. With a heat wave ending after a spectacular lighting storm on Friday night, the weekend cooled and the wind kicked up. Normally difficult conditions but anglers found and caught limits of bass heavier than anticipated.

Day 1 saw the team of  Steve Stinson & Jessey Willick sack a 21.45-pound limit to take the lead of the tournament in grad fashion. Ed and Brandon Baker held second with 20.98lbs and TJ Lacey and Brandon Baker secured third with 19.92 lbs. Saturday was a solid start to the two-day team Classic tournament.

The final day saw TJ Lacey and Brandon Baker weigh 17.33 pounds, the heaviest bag of the day, to take the win with a two-day total of 37.25lbs. They surpassed the dynamic duo of Jarrod Dean and Gerard Cocks who totaled 34.30 lbs. Baker and Lacey claimed the $12 000 first prize money plus the winner’s trophies.

Overall big bass went to Duane Jacobs and Mike Williams who caught a 6.53lb beast on Day 2. 

Awards were also given to Jarrod Dean and Gerard Cocks who won Team of the Year and Mike Williams captured Angler of the Year for the third year in a row.

Classic Weekend!

The second weekend in September is Classic weekend for TOP BASS. IBASSIN will be tracking down tournament front runners for our exclusive pre-tournament interviews. Don't miss the action as we report on it as it happens. Rotary Park, on the shores of Chemong Lake, will be the site of the TOP BASS Classic weigh-ins. Anglers can venture onto Pigeon, Buckhorn and Chemong lakes for this event. Theses three lakes are full of bass but can present difficult fishing due to the changing of the seasons. This recent heat wave should keep the action red hot.

Cocks and Dean Start 2014 with Win at Top Bass Tri-Lakes Tournament

Under humid conditions, Top Bass Fishing Series started their 2014 bass season on Saturday, June 28 at Tri-lakes. This popular event allows anglers to fish Pigeon, Buckhorn and Chemong Lakes. The stellar team of Gerrard Cocks and Jarrod Dean claimed the first place prize of  $5000 with 20.28 lbs of bass. Big fish prize went to the team of John and John Jr. Macdonald with a 5.26 lb bass.
There were 480 bass caught for the tournament which weighed 1067.01lbs. Considering the field was over 100 boats, Top Bass tournaments still remain a popular choice for anglers in Ontario.

Exclusive Interview: Jarrod Dean 2011 Top Bass Classic Winner and 2011 Team of the Year

Ibassin got a chance to chat with the 2011 Top Bass Classic Champ Jarron Dean.

Jarrod Dean, Pickering, Ontario, and his fishing partner Gerard Cocks, Toronto, Ontario, blew away the crowd and competition on Sunday, September 18, with an astonishing two day limit of 36.86 lbs, backed by an amazing 20.87 lb, 5 bass limit on Sunday.  This is their second Classic win in a row and this win also secured the 2011 Team of the Year honours.

Jarrod and Gerard have been winning tournaments in Ontario at a staggering pace. This was their third win of 2011.  In conjunction with tournament fishing, Jarrod is owner of Punisher jigs. His jigs are an Ontario phenomena, particularly the mini jigs.  Jarrod and team mate Gerard know the intricacies of jig fishing like few others.

What follows is an in-depth look at how they won.

 “We had an amazing practice. Friday we could have weighted 24 lbs. That was just the fish we hooked, most were shaken off. Gerard also had one about 6 ¾ lbs along with so many smallmouth in the 4 pound range.” declares Jarrod.
