Three Tips on Shallow Water Cranking with Adrian Avena

Shallow water cranking is an awesome technique from late winter, throughout the hot water months and into late fall. We just witnessed this at the 2017 Walmart FLW Tour event on Lake Gutnersville. Most of the Top 10 were shallow cranking.
Bass are always shallow and ready to munch a shallow crank bait. Learn from Adrian Avena on how to do it. He's a fan of the new Berkley crank baits. IT might be wise to pick up a few new crank baits from Berkley before you launch the boat.

Ryan Flaro and Scott Lefebvre Win 2016 Berkley B1 Event with 43.59lbs!

Monster smallmouth abound!
By Luigi De Rose

Photo: Mark Weare
On the first chilly weekend of autumn, 101 teams ventured on the bass rich waters of Lake Saint-Francis, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Qc, Canada trying to win the Berkley B1 tournament. If the wind is light, this tournament is a smallmouth whack fest. At the end of the two-day event, Team Radioworld's Ryan Flaro and Scott Lefebvre claim the tournament with 43.59lbs. Claiming the prize of a Z518 Ranger Boat and Mercury Motor package plus two championship rings is quite a haul. Flaro and Lefebvre grabbed top spot by the slimmest of margins, just 0.01 over Eric Danis and Eric Lamarche who landed 43.58lbs. You cannot get closer than that! Third place Nicolas Gendron and Jason Gramada also narrowly missed the win with their 43.54 pound total. This weekend, once again displayed why many consider Lake Saint-Francis one of the top smallmouth lakes on the planet.

Contrasting Q1 sales for VMC Rapala and Shimano

Two of the world’s biggest fishing tackle manufacturers reported contrasting sales fortunes in the first quarter of 2016.
Originally posted in Angling International
Lure making giant, Rapala VMC Corporation, reported First Quarter net sales of €69.7 million – 6% down from the previous year (€73.9 million) – while fishing tackle sales at Shimano increased 5% compared to the same period in 2015 to 16,796 million yen.
Despite reporting a slow start to 2016, Rapala says that its financial guidance for the year remains unchanged and that it expects net sales and comparable operating profit to be above last year’s levels.
President and CEO Jorma Kasslin told investors: “The year started a bit slow, but did not include any major surprises. In North America the ice fishing season ended up being short, but now attention has shifted to the summer fishing.”
He added that although the Russian business environment continued to be ‘challenging’, there were some signs of stabilisation in the market. “Conditions are also difficult in some other regions, but we are well positioned to face the challenges.”
Shimano’s fishing operation is dwarfed by its bicycle components business, which saw its net sales drop by 20.3% from the same period last year to 65.3 billion yen, resulting in a 16.2% decrease in group sales compared to 2015.
