Brett Hite's New JackHammer Vibrating Jig from Evergreen.
Chatterbaits
are king in spring!
By
Luigi De Rose

The
chatterbait has now claimed its second Bass Elite victory in a row and doesn't
seem to be losing any steam. Any vibrating jig sporting a coffin shaped blade
has been filing livewells across the south for over two months. When bass swim
shallow its chatterbait time.
One
angler who has built a career on the back of a vibrating jig has been Arizona
angler Brett Hite. Hite needed to learn how to compete on grass lakes so he
decided to learn the chatterbait. This investment had claimed both his FLW
wins and another two victories on the BASS Elite Tour. Brett almost grabbed
another win this past weekend at Winyah Bay but was edged out by Britt Myers
who also fished a chatterbait to claim his first BASS trophy.
In
the courts, Z-Man lures has received the rights to manufacture the
Chatterbait and has laid claim to any versions of this popular
lure. Choices have become very limited. Elite pro Brett Hite has turned to
Japanese based Evergreen International, one of his sponsors, to craft his own
version called the Jackhammer. We know almost nothing about this bait. All that
has been released is that Morizo Shimizu and Brett Hite teamed up to create it
and for many that is all that is needed to give it a seal of approval.
Don’t expect to find the
JackHammer at your local bait shop. This is a web only purchase for now. If you like
fishing something new or different than this is a great springtime purchase.

Jackall's Cool Topwater Popper
Blitz Bass with Binksy!
By Luigi De Rose
At first glace, the Binksy looks odd. Tail spinner, belly blade and a concave face have transformed this Jackall topwater to much more than your average popper. Belly blades have been the rage for the past few years in Japan. The added flash and glimmer of silver is a huge attraction. When ripped along, it create a strong pulse. Blade vibration is a unique concept for a topwater bait and most North American bass have never seen such a bait. The tail spinner allows it to rip well with short rod pops plus it ensures the feather tail hook remains downward in the water. Skittered across the surface or chugged along isolated cover, the Binksy will provide more action than traditional poppers.
At 2.75" long, it is ideal for smallmouth, spotted and largemouth bass. At 3/7oz, this compact bait will cast very well on casting gear. A dressed rear hook and matching belly treble will hold anything that bites it.
The Jackall Binksy is available in 10 colour patterns. Anglers will find top-notch quality consistent with all Jackall Lures.

Cool Perk: Testing Prototypes Lures
One of the neat parts of being a bass fishing blogger is lure testing. Yesterday, I got a chance to cast a few different prototype frogs. The people at Centro are trying to finalize their frog lure called the Frogster. A little finial tuning was needed after they modified the original skirt. They're double checking the balance between a super walk-the-dog action and the correct angle in the water.
